Michigan tribe inks Golden Nugget iGaming alliance
American iGaming operator Golden Nugget Online Gaming Incorporated is reportedly set to enter the coming online casino and sportsbetting market of Michigan via a deal with the state’s federally-recognized Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.
According to a Thursday report from PlayMichigan.com, the Houston-headquartered firm is already active in the iGaming scenes of Pennsylvania and New Jersey via locally-approved versions of its GoldenNuggetCasino.com domain and is to now apply to the Michigan Gaming Control Board for a similar license covering ‘The Wolverine State.’
Tribal timeline:
PlayMichigan.com reported that the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community is currently responsible for Ojibwa Casino-branded venues in the small northern Michigan communities of Baraga and Marquette and believes that the new iGaming enterprise may be able to go live from as soon as the end of October offering punters a variety of online casino and sportsbetting entertainment.
Initial inertia:
Although Michigan legalized sportsbetting and online casino gambling late last year, PlayMichigan.com reported that local officials have yet to award the Midwestern state’s inaugural iGaming license. The source moreover purportedly detailed that this lack of movement may well mean that Golden Nugget Online Gaming Incorporated could have to wait until next year before launching its Ojibwa Casino-themed offering.
Promising plans:
Thomas Winter, Senior Vice-President and Online Gaming General Manager for Golden Nugget Online Gaming Incorporated, reportedly declared that his firm is ‘thrilled’ to have partnered with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and now intends to work towards providing iGaming aficionados in Michigan ‘with a premium online casino and sportsbook experience.’
Reportedly read a statement from Winters…
“Players in Michigan will be able to appreciate our award-winning product offering and exceptional customer service from a nationally-recognized and trusted brand.”
While online casinos in India are not explicitly illegal, they also operate in a legal gray area. Indian players can legally access and play at offshore online casinos, but the regulation of these platforms is not covered by Indian law. As the landscape around online gambling continues to evolve, there may be future developments in how Indian law addresses online casinos. Players should stay informed about local laws and choose reputable, secure casinos to minimize risks.
